Starting on August 6, UFPJ and Bite the Bullet are co-sponsoring a series of events and actions. Below is a general description of the campaign. Also, make sure to check out http://www.august6.org for more information.
Between August 6 and 9, the anniversaries of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, demand an end to the war and the global abolition of nuclear weapons, starting with our own. We call on groups to protest at the corporate offices and facilities of such war profiteers as Bechtel, Lockheed-Martin,
Northrup Grumman and others, as well as at nuclear facilities everywhere. Sixty-two years after the U.S. killed tens of thousands of civilians by dropping nuclear bombs on two densely populated cities, our aim is to expose the continuing hypocrisy of the U.S. nuclear double standard and to directly confront the U.S. corporations who are perpetuating and profiting from a worldwide nuclear crisis and the war in Iraq. Consider organizing a march, vigil, citizen’s inspection, public forum or cast your “vote” for the elimination of nuclear weapons by printing out, filling in and mailing copies of the unofficial “ballot” to the Department of Energy, your two Senators and your Representative that is available online at August6.org. |
